Family Adventures At The Welsh House

By Emily Quinton

I have been counting down to the start of the school summer holidays for what feels like months. I absolutely love this time of year when we can all slow down, spend time together, really connect as a family and create memories to last a life time.

This time of year also makes me full of nostalgic feelings about my own childhood summers and all the adventures we had, all the time I spent pottering about at home with my sister and all the plans I always made for the new school year.

The Welsh House : Makelight

This Summer we are swapping one big Summer holiday for a few smaller adventures and piling into the car on the first day of the holidays to head down to South West Wales really was the best way to start things off.

The Welsh House : Makelight

Over the past few days we have caught up with one of my oldest friends and her lovely family, paddled in the sea, played cricket on my new favourite beach, eaten mountains of ice-cream and fish and chips, eaten pizza in a tipi, visited the National Botanical Garden of Wales, shopped for some new studio props at the House of Betty, started our Summer journals, drawn pictures, taken lots of photos, made our first Summer 2016 movie and not touched our laptops once!

All from the gorgeous Welsh House, Bryncyn. A really gorgeous place to stay, disconnect from the world and really reconnect with the people you are there with. The cottage beautifully brings together the original building with a modern extension that floods light into the kitchen and dining area. And with a hot tub in the garden, to really make sure that you relax!

The cottage worked so well with our four children, who all slept upstairs together and felt really at home, safe, relaxed and happy. They only asked about the TV once and the older ones switched playing Minecraft for reading about Minecraft and all that they could do when they returned home!

It really was lovely to disconnect. We're pretty useless at doing it mainly because Makelight is what we both do full-time now, so it's really important that we're keeping the business growing and making sure that everyone is happy every day. We knew we just couldn't be online for a few days, so we embraced it. And I've come home with a new approach to how I want to use social media for the next few months. I will be sharing that with you later this week!

I am so happy that we made time for this little adventure. I fee like we've kickstarted our Summer, all connected as a family ready for our other travels and created some wonderful memories.

All Summer we are going to be sharing our family story telling tips on our new Family Photography online course, which starts on Monday. I am extra excited about this one and really hope you'll join us on a two month adventure and learn how to capture those precious memories forever. xo

Thank you so much to Dorian at The Welsh House for this truly magical stay. We'll be back and will be sharing The Welsh House love! xo
