An Annual Portrait

I really love taking a special portrait of each of my children each year at a round the same time of the year. I enjoy taking these images just before the children go back to school in September. It feels like an important moment to mark and has become part of our family tradition.

I usually take these portraits at home in our garden. This helps me to call each of my children in turn while the others are occupied doing something else. It also gives me some much needed 1-2-1 time with them to talk about the coming year of school and all their hopes, plans and any worries they might have.

Taking these portraits in the same place and on the same day means that I can create a page in our family year book with four individual images that look like they fit together. I can also think about what they are wearing!

I would love you to make some time to take portraits of your child or children. Perhaps think of a special place that you regularly go to or use your garden if you have one. Make it a special time for both of you and think about more than just the image. Ask them questions, the reactions to these might create some lovely images.
